How to become an NCCER Accredited Organization

The following flowchart was created to assist you through the NCCER accreditation process. If you are already accredited and are looking to pursue a crane-related endorsement, check out the flowchart below.

Path-to-Accreditation

Types of Accredited Organizations

Accredited Training Sponsor (ATS) – An entity accredited by NCCER to deliver NCCER training programs and receive industry-recognized credentials. The ATS chooses the curricula they want to use and certifies their own instructors to deliver training. The ATS must meet specific standards to become accredited to offer NCCER training and earn NCCER credentials for their students.

Training Unit (TU) – A location that is registered under an Accredited Training Sponsor (ATS) to deliver NCCER training. Overseen by the ATS to ensure quality and adherence to NCCER Accreditation Guidelines, a Training Unit (TU) delivers NCCER training in a different location than the ATS.

Accredited Assessment Center (AAC) – An entity accredited by NCCER to deliver the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program (NCACP). An AAC conducts journey-level Knowledge Assessments and Performance Verifications that result in NCCER credentials and certification. The AAC must meet specific standards to become accredited to deliver NCCER assessments.

Authorized Assessment Site (AAS) – A location that is registered under an Accredited Assessment Center (AAC) to deliver the National Craft Assessment and Certification Program (NCACP). Overseen by the AAC to ensure quality and adherence to NCCER Accreditation Guidelines, an Authorized Assessment Site (AAS) conducts journey-level Knowledge Assessments and Performance Verifications in a different location than the AAC. Successful completion of NCCER assessments result in NCCER credentials and certification for test takers.
